The 6 Team Leaders of the 1966-67 NHL
1966-67 marked a major end of an era for the National Hockey League. The league played its last season with just six teams. The following year, the NHL doubled in size to 12 teams and within seven years that number would increase to 18. 1966-67 also marked the last time the Toronto Maple Leafs would win the Stanley Cup.
The NHL was also a couple of years away from the offensive explosion, in most part brought on by the Boston Bruins. None of the six team leaders in 1966-67 would exceed 100 points, although Stan Mikita’s 97 points would establish a league record for most points in a season. Oshawa Generals Double 50
The Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League have had several players hit the 50 goal plateau in the long history of the junior hockey franchise. Four of those players have repeated the accomplishment at some level of pro hockey. Two of them have scored 50 in the National Hockey League.
By this time next year, there could very well be a fifth member of this club. John Tavares scored 72 goals with the Generals in 2006-07. His top total in the NHL to date was 31 in 2011-12 with the New York Islanders. However, in the lockout shortened 2012-13 National Hockey League season, J.T. scored 28 goals in 48 games for the Islanders. Over a full 82 game schedule, this would equate to a 48 goal pace. With Tavares and the Islanders only getting stronger, he could net 50 in 2013-14...

Newbury for Syvret: Flyers and Rangers Trade Minor Leaguers
This past week, two Ontario Hockey League grads were swapped in a one for one deal. The trade was officially between the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers but was really between the Adirondack Phantoms and Connecticut Whale in the American Hockey League.
Going to the Flyers organization is Kris Newbury. Leaving the Flyers, again, is Danny Syvret. Both played leadership roles with their AHL teams in 2012-13 and will undoubtedly do the same in 2013-14...

1979 NHL Entry Draft: 1st Round and Beyond
Typically, in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft, there will be at least a few duds that never quite catch on in the National Hockey League. This wasn’t the case in the 1979 Draft. Of the 21 players selected, the lowest career total games was 238 by Ray Allison who was selected 18th overall by the Hartford Whalers.
Eleven of the 21 players selected in the first round of the 1979 NHL Entry Draft went on to play over 1,000 regular season NHL games. The most career games played by this fine group of players is 1,612 by Ray Bourque. Bourque was selected eighth by the Boston Bruins...
